I’m in the process of getting a series of photographs printed for the forthcoming ‘Love at The Poly’ show in Falmouth.
The work looks at the bedroom interiors of the former Cornwall Motel – there’s more information on the ‘Love at The Poly’ website, which has just been launched. ‘Love at The Poly’ will take over all the galleries in the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society building and will feature the work of current students and recent graduates of Falmouth University.
PRIVATE VIEW 8 February 5.30-7.30pm, all welcome.
My work for the MA in Fine Art: Contemporary Practice at UCF is increasingly focused on ‘place’, particularly from the perspective of the outsider. The environment I am working is so culturally loaded it is impossible not to end up being influenced by it… but at the moment it’s the derelict, forgotten or everyday places that I’m interested in, rather than the areas of outstanding natural beauty. I’m also looking at the history of constructed ‘natural’ landscapes – the plants alien to the place they inhabit; the design and building work behind the scenes; the entrances/exits/boundaries that define different pieces of land.
These photos aren’t great quality but they’re research shots for some photo/video/painting work that I hope will come together as installation pieces…
Here are some photos from the studio from July-September 2012: a series of small paintings on board is developing, based on photos and mixed media drawings I made early this Summer. I’ve been enjoying a return to using oil paint, although I’m also still working on paper with Indian ink, acrylic and enamel spray paint.
I am also starting to explore the lens-based media facilities at University College Falmouth, as I’ve started the MA Fine Art there. I hope to have developed some multi-disciplinary work in time for the MA interim show in January 2013.
For now, the focus is on finishing the small paintings and some related works on paper in time for Krowji’s Christmas Open Studios, which are Friday 30 November until Sunday 2 December.
